In Canto V of Dante Inferno Francesca say's "love, which permits no loved one not love, took me so strongly with delight in him." In this quote she is blaming love for her actions. The idea of you can't help who you love came to mind. I believe that it is true that you can't help who you love.In the dictionary the meaning of love is a deep ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude towards a person. For example, in Romeo and Juliet Romeo fell in love with Juliet the moment he saw her at the Capulet's ball. Romeo was willing to do anything just to be with the one he loved. Another example will be how Aria Montgomery from Pretty Little Liars fell in the with her English teacher Ezra Fitz, and now struggles to get over him. Love is something you can't avoid this is why I believe that you can't help who you love.
Luckily, this is all fictitious work and not real because I'll never understand how you can fall in love with someone the first moment you see them. Romeo and Juliet's first meeting and their suicides happened within a week, which I think is sad, but funny. The fact that all of the people in that circle do not blame themselves for why they are there is also interesting. That is why they'll never be redeemed.
ReplyDeleteThis is true. Sometimes love is something you have no control over. But people should choose wisely who the love. For instance, in Canto V Francesca was married and had an affair with Paolo. In cases like this, you should think wisely of who you really love and follow their heart. Johnny Depp once said such a deep meaningful quote: “if you love two people at the same time, choose the second. Because if you really loved the first one, you wouldn't have fallen for the second.”

DeleteI also believe this is true. I have always felt that true love is something that an individual really has no control over. However, sometimes the people we ultimately fall in love with can be detrimental to ourselves. For example, a woman in an abusive relationship may fall in love with a man because of the attention he gives her initially but is hurting herself because she can is faced to deal with the mental, physical or emotional abuse from him. I assume the way we interpret whether or not someone should be blamed for who they fall in love with is if we believe that falling in love is an uncontrollable action.
ReplyDeleteI disagree! I believe we can help who we fall in love. I do not believe in love at first sight. I believe in emotions at first sight. I believe you have the power to control your emotions. I think you can never be to caught up in the moment to deny yourself of fleshly desires. In Pretty Little Liars, Aria does "fall in love" with Eriza. However, she was emotionally enwrapped with an older man. Her emotions controlled her, not her love for him.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Love is a deep emotion that takes it own course and you can't control that feeling that comes along. Sometimes fate works in mysterious ways and seeks up on you. However, we all have a conscious and we know what is right and what's wrong. Therefore, sometimes you can love someone and you know they are not right for you and you have to make the decision whether to stay or go. Love may not be controllable but you have to remember what is right and just for both parties. As far as love at first sight, I believe in that also! There is someone out there for everyone, meaning we all have a soulmate lurking out there waiting to meet us. And when you find that someone that's perfect for you, you know and you can't control nor stop it.
