This week or rather last week in class we began to present our interpretations of the pilgrims of The Canterbury Tales. I can honestly admit the interpretations were a real eye opener. I hadn't looked at half of those pilgrims the way they were meant to be interpreted. For Example, The Cook, when I read his section the first time I didn't catch how repulsive he was until Nana broke it down and focused on the details of the discription. The array of pictures kept me focused and provided a nice visual to go along with the text. I feel as if the project (or assignment...whatever) was a solid, beneficial way to learn about the folks of The Canterbury Tales while short on time. It was cool.

I agree with you, this mini project was a great way to see the characters from a different point of view. I did not notice half of these characteristics until we all were assigned individual characters to analyze and break down. It was a cool way to get a feel of the characters and actually discover who they truly are.
ReplyDeleteMy question to all of you is can you think of a particular character that you understood more vividly because of the images and explanation provided by your classmate(s)?
ReplyDeleteI had more understating of the Nun because of Brianna's and Al's explanation.
DeleteI finally understood why the Cook was so disgusting to you! Nana did a great presentation with the pictures and also by telling us exactly what his problem was.
DeleteWhen we discussed the different characters in class I was able to understand which characteristics were made fun of for each character which I could not understand for some of the characters when I read on my own. It was so helpful!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I am so glad that we ended up doing this project . I got to understand my character (The Yeoman) so much more and watching other presentations helped me to understand the pilgrims, the journey , Chaucer and the satire he creates . The presentations were great and I hope we get to do another project like this . Great blog Salsabil !
ReplyDeleteI think that the character that appeared more vivid to be was the Prioress. I never caught that her etiquette and character was forced. That just did not occur to me when I was reading it for the first time. I agree with Salsabil that all of the presentations were really helpful and helped me to understand the text better. Good Job!!
ReplyDeleteThe presentations definitely gave me a deeper understanding on Chaucer's use of satire. It's interesting to see that satire is used by most comedians today. If you watch late night shows like Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Kimmel, etc.. they are always ridiculing things that are wrong in our society, but in a jokingly manner. For example, on older episodes of Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey would portray how foolish Sarah Palin("I can see Alaska from my house") seemed to most of the world yet she was running for a office in government.
